Incredibly, the salpiglossis is still blooming. The next few days are going to be rough - close to 100 and no rain forecast.

I should take a picture of the goldfinches in the blue birdbath for contrast.

I like your one-liners. Lots going on - great and annoying (stink bugs and vine borers!)

Love that salpiglossis. Gorgeous. And that birdbath is really great - looks even better with the matching bluebird enjoying his dip in the pool.

Ooh, I like that one too. Maybe next year. I'm planning to try a packet of mixed colors next year too. But I wonder if there is a difference in heat tolerance between varieties, because I noticed that Annie's Annuals mentioned that Kew Blue will bloom all summer if deadheaded. I might have had beginner's luck in choosing the most heat tolerant one?

Man... I should have given them a shot! I just checked the packet and it says that they were packed for 2007. But I *might* just go ahead and try them next year anyway. (By the way, they were Royal/Royale Chocolate: http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/s/salpiglossis_sinuata_pt.htm)

I started them from seed (from Chiltern, but I think I've seen Kew Blue seeds elsewhere). Starting them wasn't that hard - a lot like petunias. I planned to write a post about them, just because they're said to dislike hot weather and therefore ought not to grow in a Virginia summer. But......ta da!

Oh my, I adore that salpiglossis! I think I still have seeds purchased a few years ago that I never started, because I was intimidated by all of the instructions. Did you buy yours, or go through starting them from seed?
